Golden Ticket 2 is the latest release from Play’n GO, and is a follow up to their 2014 circus-themed slot, Golden Ticket. The new release keeps the popular circus theme and adds some exciting features. The graphics have also been given a makeover, creating better characters and a more immersive experience. It plays out over a 5×5 reel set with a high volatility and a RTP of 96.5%.
Symbols and Payouts
Winning combinations can be formed vertically or horizontally anywhere on the screen, and must be made up of 3 or more matching symbols. The three main characters feature as the premium symbols. There is a beautiful female ringmaster, a masked knife-thrower, and a clown. The three premium symbols can team up in any combination to give a win, but the low paying symbols must match identically to form a winning combo.
Unlike the original Golden Ticket game, there are no golden ticket symbols in the sequel. The Wild symbol is represented by a golden tent, which suits the theme perfectly. It’s the highest paying symbol on the paytable, and landing 5 of them will pay out 50x the bet. The maximum win possible on a single spin is set at 5,000x the stake.
The premium symbols all feature the same payout rates. Landing 3, 4, or 5 premiums will pay 0.5x, 1x or 10x respectively. Landing a combination of the 3 premiums will pay out half of these values. So, striking 5 clowns would pay out 10x the bet, whereas striking 3 clowns and 2 ringmasters would pay 5x the bet. The low paying symbols are made up of circus paraphernalia such as targets, hats, knives, and juggling props.
Golden Ticket 2 utilizes the same cascading feature during the base game that the original slot did. It works slightly differently to other games that incorporate the cascading feature because new tiles do not fall from the top. The tiles that are already on the screen simply drop down to replace the tiles that were removed by the winning combination. This means that a winning combination on the top row will never result in a consecutive win, however winning combinations in any other row can create a chain reaction of wins.
During the cascading feature, the game has a multiplier which increases with each drop. So, after every win, the multiplier increases by 1x the bet, until the cascading stops when there are no new wins struck. Players will then need to push the spin button again to continue playing, and the multiplier will reset to 1x the bet.
While the base game is in play, there is a charge meter on the left of the screen. Every time a winning combination of premium symbols lands, the meter gets an additional charge. Three premiums apply one charge, four premiums apply two charges, and a 5-of-a-kind premium win will fully charge the meter, or apply three charges. Once the meter is fully charged, wild symbols will be randomly added to the screen. The multiplier value of the wild symbols will depend on the character that is displayed on the right of the screen, but it ranges from 1x to 3x the stake.
The bonus game is triggered when all the symbols are cleared from the BONUS row. The BONUS row is random and can change between each spin. Once the feature is triggered, players must choose one of 3 free spins options. The versions differ in the number of spins that the player receives, as well as the volatility of the spins:
- Ringmaster Feature: 5 free spins with 3x Wilds
- Knife-thrower Feature: 7 free spins with 2x Wilds
- Clown Feature: 9 free spins with 1x Wilds
During the free spins, the charge meter no longer counts towards multiplier wilds. The charge meter now counts towards Win Spins – a feature which is specific to the free spins bonus. Once the charge meter is full, the player is awarded a Win Spin which is activated at the end of the current free spin.
The Win Spin comes with additional chances to land some big wins because it incorporates a large 2×2 wild symbol, which is effectively a single wild symbol that takes the space of 4 symbols. If a Win Spin is re-triggered, it carries the multiplier from the previous Win Spin and does not reset.
Verdict: Golden Ticket 2
Play’n GO nailed the carnival vibe in Golden Ticket 2. The ability to choose different versions of the main bonus feature keeps the game interesting, especially given the fact that they offer different volatilities. The various Wild symbols, and their differing functions, can be slightly confusing for the first few moments, but you quickly get the hang of the game. It has a wide betting range between 0.20 and 100, with a volatility rated 10 out of 10 by its developers, so players should expect all the thrills and frills associated with a real circus on Golden Ticket 2.
