Conan Slot Review
Many online slot providers acquire licences to produce slots inspired by popular TV shows, movies, music acts and brands. Conan is a new NetEnt slot for 2019 based on the eponymous sword and sorcery franchise. The Conan character first appeared in a comic book series, which lasted from 1970 to 1993. He also appeared in a 1982 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular character. The film follows the young muscular barbarian who as he seeks revenge against the leader of a snake cult who was responsible for his parents’ death.
NetEnt have put a considerable amount of effort into ensuring the Conan slot pays fitting tribute to the franchise as a whole. While it draws inspiration from the film, it doesn’t feature the likeness of its actors, though it’s still very well themed. The slot has a medium to high variance and an RTP of 96.01%. It’s played on a grid with four rows and six reels, with 24 paylines in total. Unlike most other slots, this one has paylines running both from left to right and from right to left – this gives you more chances of winning with every spin of the reels.
Symbols and Payouts
There are nine standard symbols that can appear on the reels. Offering the lowest payouts are three coins depicting a lion, a snake and a falcon. The grappling hook, helmet and sword shields all have higher payout rates, while the three character symbols, which include Conan himself, are the most valuable. Conan, of course, is the most valuable, rewarding you with a 6x payout for six on a payline. Mystery snake symbols can appear as single symbols or stacked on reels 3 or 4. All of these symbols transform into the same standard symbol to help you win. Whenever a fully stacked Mystery Symbol appears on reel 3 or 4 (or both), any wins get multiplied by a value between 3x and 7x.
The Thoth-Amon feature triggers whenever at least one fully stacked Mystery Symbol appears along with a Battle Wild or Tower Wild. This feature adds three to six Mystery Symbols on reels 2-5 in any positions occupied by standard symbols.
Speaking of the wilds, Battle Wilds appear on reels 5 and 6 only. They can expand up to three positions sideways and substitute for all symbols except the scatter. Tower Wilds appear on reels 1 and 2 and can expand to fill the entire reel they’re on.
As for the scatter, landing three, four, five or six will reward you with 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins respectively. You’ll get to choose one of three free spins features to play:
– City of Thieves: Tower Wilds can appear on all reels and expand up and/or down to fully or partially fill the reel. This has a low to medium variance
– Temple of the Serpent: Mystery Symbols and stacked Mystery Symbols can appear on all reels. Landing one or more fully stacked Mystery Symbols gives a multiplier of 3x – 7x. Land five to nine Mystery Symbols to trigger the Thoth-Amon feature, which adds three to six extra Mystery Symbols randomly. This has a medium to high variance
– Walls of Tarantia: Battle Wilds can appear on all reels and expand up to three positions sideways. This has a low to medium variance
As if all that’s not enough, there’s the Linked Reels feature. The slot’s reels are grouped into three pairs: reels 1 and 2, reels 3 and 4, and reels 5 and 6. Whenever you spin the reels, there’s a chance both reels in a pair will link together and display the same symbols, giving you an increased chance of winning.
As you can tell, Conan certainly has a lot going on! This slot is very feature-heavy indeed, but don’t think it’s too complicated to enjoy. In fact, all these features make it exciting to play, because there are so many ways your chances of winning can be boosted. Have a spin of this very well themed new NetEnt slot and immerse yourself in the world of the savage barbarian and think about which of the free spins features you’re going to play first.
