Overview: Cops N Robbers Megaways
The Megaways trend shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Since the first Megaways slot, Bonanza by Big Time Gaming, launched in 2016, dozens of slots with this innovative feature have come out. One of the newest is Cops ’n’ Robbers Megaways, a highly volatile slot game from Inspired Gaming that’s the latest addition to the Cops ’n’ Robbers series.
The previous entries in the series, including Cops ’n’ Robbers Millionaire’s Row and Cops ’n’ Robbers Vegas Vacation, are from the provider Greentube. Inspired Gaming’s contribution keeps the simple cartoon-style graphics of the previous slots and adds in the popular Megaways feature.
Symbols and Payouts
First, we’ll have a look at the reels. There are six of them and every time you spin them, the number of symbols on each one changes. Reels 1 and 6 can have anything from two to seven symbols on them, while reels 2-5 can have two to six. Above reels 2-5 is an extra row that always gives each reel below one symbol. Therefore, these four reels actually have a minimum of three symbols on them and can have up to seven.
You win by lining up three or more matching symbols from left to right on consecutive reels. The more matching symbols there are and the more reels they’re on, the more you get paid. The symbols you can win with include the card symbols 10, J, Q, K and A, along things that better fit the slot’s theme, such as a cop, a stack of dollar bills and a cop car. There’s also the logo, which only requires two on adjacent reels for you to win, not three. If six logos are lined up, one on each reel, you’re paid 50x your bet.
The bulldog is the slot’s wild symbol. It fills in for all of the regular paying symbols and can help you earn payouts. During the base game, the wild appears in the extra row above reels 2-5 only. During the free spins round, however, it can appear on the main grid as well.
Whenever you’re lucky enough to win, a cascade happens. All of the winning symbols vanish and the gaps that are left behind are filled by symbols of the same size dropping down from above. This can cause new winning combinations to be formed and if there are any, a new cascade is triggered. Thanks to this, you can win over and over again from just one spin of the reels.
When you play this slot, you’ll see there’s a lamppost above the top right corner of the gaming grid. On any spin, this can flash blue or red. If it’s blue, a number of mystery symbols will be added to random positions on the grid. They then reveal the same regular paying symbol and any winnings are paid out.
If the lamppost flashes red, you’ll enter a special mode where on every spin, the number of symbols on the reels increases; the number of Megaways (ways to win) increases, too. At the bottom of the screen on the left side is a robber. There’s also a crossing light and every time the reels spin, this light is either red or green. If it’s red, the robber stays put; if it’s green, the robber moves across the screen.
This mode ends if the number of Megaways reaches its maximum (117,649), if you win more than 5x your bet or if the robber reaches the right-hand side of the reels (when this happens, at least three scatters are guaranteed to land).
Whenever three or more scatters appear on the reels, you’re given the choice of two bonus features:
– Free Spins. You receive eight free spins, plus an extra two for every triggering scatter after the fourth. There’s a win multiplier that starts at x1 and increases by x1 for every consecutive cascade, resetting to x1 when a cascade produces no new wins. You’ll see a dog, Bonzo, in his hut to the right of the top row. He might move across the screen, one reel at a time. If a wild lands on the reel directly beneath him, that reel turns fully wild.
– The Chase. This is a mini-game where you move Bert the robber around a board to avoid the cops. You start off with a snooze count of three. This determines how many moves Bert gets to make before the cops start chasing him. Each scatter that appears increases the snooze count by 1. As Bert moves around the board, he can earn cash prizes and even a multiplier. When Bert is caught, an ID parade is held. If Bert gets identified, you get paid and the feature ends. If Sid gets picked, you receive a bonus payout then get to play the feature again. If it’s Vic who’s picked, you play the feature again but with bigger prizes on the board.
Both of these features can be unpredictable and quite rewarding, so which one will you end up choosing? The decision is yours!
Verdict: Cops N Robbers Megaways
Cops ’n’ Robbers Megaways is the latest entry in the Cops ’n’ Robbers series. While it has the same classic animation style as the earlier games, it takes the gameplay up a notch by including Megaways. Every spin can give you thousands or even over a hundred thousand ways to win. If you play the free spins round, the more consecutive cascades you get, the bigger the multiplier – this gives you the chance to earn some very respectable payouts.
If you like the sound of this new online slot game, be sure to give it a try. You should find it appealing if you’re into slots that have plenty of special features going on. It’s a fun and entertaining game that many players will no doubt enjoy playing throughout 2021 and beyond.
